Inspired by Young Identity on International womens day

On international women's day I took to the streets to undertake the walk organised by Manchester City Council, lead by and spoken at by some of the most inspirational women in Manchester

Young Identity a charity close to my heart which i am keen supporter of, had some its young members reading poetry at the Castlefield bowl at the post celebration of the march . This poetry made me consider about my identity , as many of the women took to the stage and defined there features, there inspirations the thoughts on what it is like to be a women i started to consider the political and emotional concepts around what I identify as.

I identify as - I AM GEMMA BAILEY

It was an absolute pleasure to be involved in the womens walk and and celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women. This year marks the centenary of the change in the law that finally allowed some - but not all - women to vote for the first time.

As my home town Manchester is the home to some of the famous surrogates like Emimerline Pankhurst i feel its important to celebrate and mark her achievements .The Representation of the People Act 1918 was a catalyst moment in the fight for equality and ultimately led to equal voting rights for men and women a decade later.

Only 4 % of females are CEO's in the medical industy in the UK, encouraging me to think on about how i can also make a difference and empower other women in the field. This day highlighted the achievements of other women and I hope will encourage others to make there mark.

I am proud to be part of an industry that saves lives.
